(Australia-NewsWire.Com, November 08, 2012 ) Tasmania, Australia -- What Car? magazine has named the Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec five-door their Used Car of the Year.
The Mondeo 2.0 TDCi was voted Best Used Family Car. The S-Max took the award for Best Used MPV back to the garage, rounding out an excellent showing by Ford in the year-end awards. Last year’s Best Used Car, the Nissan Qashqai 1.5-liter diesel, was awarded the Best Used SUV award.
The Golf 1.6 TDI and the Passat Estate 2.0 TFSI won the Best Used Small Family Car and the Best Used Estate, in a double-win for Volkswagen.
Audi also took home two awards for Best Used Executive and Luxury Car with the A6 2.0 TDI and Best Fun Car with the TT 2.0 TFSI. The Toyota Aygo 1.0 VVT-i, three-door, was awarded Best Used City Car.
Judges from all aspects of the auto industry made up the What Car? panel and awarded winners and runners-up in additional categories, including: running-costs, reliability, driveability, quality, longevity, safety features and desirability.
Chas Hallet, What Car? editor-in-chief, was a vocal fan of the Ford Fiesta, saying: "The Fiesta is a fantastic used car. It's stylish, refined, safe and great to drive. It's also reliable and cheap to run, and you can buy a three-year-old example for a little over £6,000, so it's a lot of talented car for the cash."
A timely report by British Car Auctions (BCA) revealed that the values of used cars appear to be climbing. The data released this week showed that average values of used cars have climbed about 2.5% over prices in August, as well as posting a 1% increase in value year over year. The trend suggests that reliability in older, higher mileage vehicles might be overcoming customer preferences for new vehicles, especially given the poor economy.
