(Australia-NewsWire.Com, November 11, 2012 ) Victoria, Australia -- Polly Zundel, a former St. John’s School student, has launched her very own children’s clothing business, and has named it after her own nickname she was given as a child: Polly Ollie Annie.
Though a mere 20 years old, she has decided that the business was something she wanted to do. “When all my friends went to university, I stayed at home and set up my own company.”
Zundel hopes to create her own brand label and that her online shop pollyollieannie.com will become a famous as Boden, Armani Junior, or Boss kids.
The young entrepreneur launched her company last week at Cheltenham Fashion Week. Zundel took some of the children’s clothes she has made from vintage fabrics to show off at the event.
“I didn’t sell much, but it was great to get my name known,” said Zundel.
The Zundel family has lived in Burbage for a decade and Polly went to a local school through her A-levels. All along, she intended to launch a vintage children’s clothing business rather than heading off to college like so many of her contemporaries.
Her A-levels included textiles, which complimented what she learned from her grandmother when Zundel was a child.
“I had an interest in fashion in clothes for as far back as I can remember,” she said.
“My mum was always sewing and I used to help her. My granny was an amazing knitter and I was able to learn so much from her.”
Her A-level schooling covered pattern cutting as well, as she is thus able to cut patterns for her own clothing.
“I also take a lot of inspiration from the clothes you see in Lady-bird books and old photos,” said Zundel.
While the company specializes in throwback kidswear, Miss Zundel’s workshop in her home is full of an array of fabrics and types of patterns.
The collection includes some pieces made by her grandmother, but Zundel says she treasures them too much to utilize them in the clothing.
“It’s almost a dying art and it would have been so nice if my grandmother was still here because she would have loved what I am doing.”
