(Australia-NewsWire.Com, November 13, 2012 ) Victoria, Australia -- Honda has announced it will make $200 million in new investments at two Ohio plants, which will create a minimum of 200 manufacturing jobs.
The Japanese automaker said Anna engine plant and Russells point transmission plant expansions were in honor of Honda’s 30th anniversary of production in the United States.
Ron Lietzke, Honda spokesperson, noted that upgrades and efforts to localize manufacturing of its products within North America will continue.
Honda is set to spend $170 million in order to add a fourth engine line and update the plant in Anna, which will add 200 new jobs, if not more. Construction is set to begin in the coming months for the line, which is located 50 miles north of Dayton.
A further $50 million will be invested at the transmission plant that is located at Russells Point, 60 miles from Dayton. That expansion is in addition to previously announced spending that will occur at the facility.
Upgrades at the Russells plant is said to involve creating new jobs; however, the details have not yet been divulged.
Honda has said it has already invested around $475 million to those plants within two years.
The Anna facility employs well over 2,000 individuals at the plant and is the producer of four-cylinder and V6 engines, as well as other components. It is also the largest Honda plant in the United States. The roughly 1,100 current employees at the Russells Point plant make automatic transitions as well as four-wheel-drive systems.
The new Accord being built by Honda is being manufactured at the company’s Marysville plant, located in central Ohio. That project has meant investments and jobs in the Anna and Russells Point plants, as companies that supply products all receive a boost in necessity.
In total, the Honda company employs 13,500 individuals in the manufacturing, support, and research and development departments.
There are nine Honda lines in seven plants in North America. Those lines have an annual capacity of 1.63 million Honda and Acura cars.
