(Australia-NewsWire.Com, November 12, 2012 ) New South Wales, Australia -- Brent Keller had been building homes in the Orlando and Southwest Florida area for two decades before he expanded to constructing hurricane shutters. His focus was to give the same attention to detail that he put into the rest of his work. However, hurricane tracks are just not pretty, and so Keller made it his goal to change that.
“I always used a lot of crown molding so I thought that would work,” Keller explained. “How much better would your house look if you replace that track with crown molding?”
Since wood needs lots of maintenance, he designed metal crown molding.
“Ninety-eight percent was quick. The other 2% took three years,” Keller said about trying to perfect his crown molding for hurricane tracks.
Keller finally came up with a way to make everything work together. Keller’s company, Bee Safe Hurricane Shutters, is in its second hurricane season of sales, as he provides roll and accordion shutters to the communities.
Keller says that clients are able to do their entire home with crown molding or simply focus on the front of the house, where it is most visible.
“It can be more affordable if it is done in the front,” Keller explained.
The Crown molding will cost anywhere from $85 for a window, to $312 for the largest of sliding-glass doors.
Keller says he has installed the series in 25 homes thus far, and believes that once people catch on to its effectiveness and quality, the product will see gains in popularity.
Keller recently did a Fort Myers home in the area’s historic district, and said the look was not hindered one bit by his products presence. When he installed the series on a Magnolia Landing home in North Fort Myers, he received calls from neighbors across the street who wanted to purchase his services.
“I think the neatest thing is you can go out to someone’s home that is bland and you add this just to the front of the home and it adds a lot of zip and pop to it,” Keller said.
