(Australia-NewsWire.Com, September 14, 2012 ) Brisbane,Queensland -- According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Australian car retailers saw a big jump in business in August, with the sale of new cars jumping 6.2% over the previous month, when retailers saw a big slowdown in the sale of new vehicles.
According to a report released by The Australian Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries VFACTS report, car sales increased from 88,082 for the month of July to 93,552 in the month of August, with a significant increase coming from the sale of sport utility and light commercial vehicles. The same report shows that during the eight month period leading up to August, car sales were up 9.4% from the same period last year. The Sydney Morning Herald went onto say that the numbers show that Australian residents are willing to shell out for big ticket items.
The owner of Australian Vehicle Wholesale, a used car dealer in Brisbane, is hoping the jump in the sale of new cars will also mean a big increase in sales levels for used vehicles.
“A strong new car market also generally means a strong used car market,” said the owner of the dealership, selling a variety of vehicles from Toyota Landcruisers in Brisbane to used 4x4s in Brisbane. “When we see big numbers coming out like this in the new car market, we’re optimistic that we’re also going to see an increase in sales.”
“Generally, when people are going out and purchasing new cars at high levels, then they’re feeling confident in the market, and are willing to spend money,” said the dealership owner. “This is good for the used car market, because those people that don’t have the means to necessarily purchase a new car are going to feel confident enough to go out and purchase a used car that is more in line with their budget.”
“The reports have shown that SUVs and 4x4s are doing the best when it comes to new vehicle sales, and we’ve seen the same trends with our stock of used 4x4s for sale in Brisbane,” said the dealership owner. “Every trend that is being shown in the new car market is also trickling down to the used car market, including the growing sales numbers for Toyotas in Australia. For example, we’ve seen a number of customers looking for the Toyota Hilux for sale in Brisbane recently, and new car dealers are reporting that many buyers are searching for Toyota models.”
Australian Vehicle Wholesale hopes that the strength in the car sales market continues for the remainder of the year, and that the used car market also continues to see strong sales.
“We’re optimistic,” said the owner of the dealership, which is one of the biggest used 4x4 dealers in Brisbane. “We, like other car dealers were feeling nervous after the weak July reports, but we’re back on track to have a great year.”
