(Australia-NewsWire.Com, November 11, 2012 ) Victoria, Australia -- Brad Fritsch is the latest Canadian to earn his spot on the PGA Tour.
The 34-year-old of Manotick, Onatrio finished hole 18 of the Web.com Tour money list and well inside the mandatory top 25 who will earn a 2013 PGA Tour card. Fritsch earned a ticket to golf’s “big time” under the sunny Texas skies on Sunday afternoon.
Fritsch received his prize, an engraved money clip and a bib that symbolized his accomplishing what is a lifelong dream , capping off his 12-year journey to his goal.
“It was a long process and it won’t mean anything if I don’t do anything with it,” said Fritsch, folding up the bib. “But right now this is a pretty big deal.”
Fritsch finished 2-under-par with a 69 at Sunday’s finish, tied for ninth place in the Tour Championship. He earned $26,000, which gave him $212,168 in earning during his stint with the Web.com Tour (the golfing equivalent of Triple-A baseball). He started the week at 21st on the money list. While it was still qualifying, it was a bit more stressful than his eventual 18th place finishing.
The Edmonton native grew up outside of Ottawa and played on the Careton Golf and Yacht Club and the Rideau View Country club. He will now have an opportunity to take on the world’s best golfers.
Fritsch admitted he had to battle nerves on his final day leading up to his promotion, as he knew his dream was within grasp.
Now that he has reached his goal, he was able to pack his bag for the trip home to Holly Springs, North Carolina, and reflect on all he has accomplished.
“I’m just excited to see everyone and to be able to properly thank everyone,” said Fritsch. “There were a few people who thought I’d never make it, but there were exponentially more that thought I would.”
Sunday was not without considerable drama, as Fritsch clinched his card after a hard-fought finish from Adam Hadwin, saw him bumped out of the top 25 spot on the final hole. But Fritsch prevailed and the two met behind the green after being handed their prizes.
“I love you, but I hate you, man,” said Hadwin, as he extended his hand to Hahn.
“I just heard about it,” said Hahn, who moved up from 13th to fifth among the final 25. “You’ve got game, man. I’ll see you on the big tour.”
