(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 11, 2013 ) Canning Vale South, Australia -- Parents have a wide range of fears and worries when it comes to their infants health. Along with such fears comes a myriad of gross, annoying, and tiring chores involving the child. The changing of diapers quickly and easily, to ensure the lack of rashes, the lowering the sheer quantity of vomit and other fluids that seem to fly from a childÂ’s mouth, and the constant cleaning of a pacifier that, at times, can't seem to stay in place.
Many parents find shortcuts for many of these activities, and the one that is used most often is the spit-shined pacifier. It falls to the floor, and the parent then picks it up, gives it a good hauck with some straight saliva, and gives it back to the child.
Luckily, for every exhausted parent everywhere, it turns out that spit-shinning the pacifier can mean strengthening your child's immune system. It can assist in strengthening it through the development of particular allergy protection, according to a study recently released in the journal of Pediatrics.
Parents that clean pacifiers in the old-fashioned method show a significant drop in the development of eczema, for instance.
The study was handled in Sweden, where 180 children had samples of saliva taken. Of those children, those who had a pacifier in their own mouth before reinserting it to the child gave them a microbe-rich advantage over those who boiled it or rinsed it off.
At 18 months of age, those children in the former camp had a 66% reduction in the onset of eczema as compared to the children of the 'more hygienic method'.
Scientists also noted there was a lowering of respiratory infection among the former group. Both groups maintained a steady average regarding the number of infections, regardless of the cleaning method for the pacifier.
