(Australia-NewsWire.Com, October 20, 2014 ) Seacliff, SA -- Wine making has been with us for thousands of years, in one form or another. The Roman Empire planted vines on an industrial level, and wine was taken with most meals and seen as being a healthy past time. The majority of the wine – producing regions in Western Europe were setup by the Roman Empire, and are still going today. So wine has been coursing through our veins for a long time, with differing views on its benefits and draw backs.
Most things in moderation are ok, even if they are considered to be bad for us. But for a long time there has been a general consensus that a glass of red wine a day is actually beneficial to our health. Of course, when one group of people say one thing, there is always another group who will oppose them, and so it is with this theory. The problem apposes have with the glass a day theory is that it means the consumption of alcohol everyday, which is a fair point to raise.
A study published in ‘Science Magazine' in March 2013, carried out by Harvard Medical School researchers, has shown that the anti-oxidants in red wine; specifically resveratrol, actually speed up the production of SIRT1 which is a serum that speeds up cells energy production to help block diseases. With this extra energy production comes the ability to slow down the signs of ageing, and it could also help combat age related problems such as Dementia, Alzheimer's and Strokes. As well as being great for anti-ageing; research is also showing that resveratrol is good for your heart, by helping to prevent damage to blood vessels, reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and helping to prevent blood clots.
Research is on-going, and scientists are hoping to be able to produce the same results in a tablet form, but for now it would seem that if you want to help your heart, look and feel better, and slow down the signs of ageing, then a glass of red wine with dinner may be the best thing you can do for yourself.
David Harwin; a spokesperson for Distinct Wine Accessories said "this is fantastic news for everyone who enjoys a glass or two of red wine – myself included!" He went on to say "of course we here at Distinct Wine Accessories always promote responsible alcohol consumption, as do these studies. The cross over from healthy drinking to abuse may be a thin line, but a standard glass of red with a meal sounds like it could be a real boost for your body."
